History
Built in 1928, The Sovereign is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was constructed in the Spanish Colonial Revival style replete with architectural features including a stepped rope molding above the portal ends, and French doors that open onto wrought iron balconies. The stunning Lobby and Library offer Art Deco touches and charm. The Sovereign survived the Great Depression, the depradations of urban renewal, the earthquake of 1994, and has been meticulously restored as one of the few remaining grand hotels of its time. “Absolutely loved my stay at The Sovereign—truly a hidden gem! From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and eager to help. The location is perfect — just a short walk to the beach, Santa Monica Pier, Third Street Promenade, and tons of great restaurants and shops. It felt like everything fun in Santa Monica was right at our doorstep. We were able to explore the area without needing a car, which made our trip so relaxing.
